Introducing coffee culture to Ottawa one cup at a time
Andrew Bassett, co-founder of Little Victories Coffee (LVC), discovered his true passion for coffee during his travels in Melbourne, Australia. Since then, Andrew’s mission has been to serve quality coffee and bring true coffee culture to his hometown, Ottawa.
Andrew’s first part-time job working as a barista in Ottawa at the age of 16 was ‘fun’ and ‘upbeat.’ It was during this time that Andrew expressed an interest in the coffee industry. After high school, Bassett shifted career paths from being a barista to training to be a firefighter in Texas, United States. His travels led him to Melbourne, Australia, where he was hired at Duke’s, a reputable coffee roaster. Andrew describes his first cup of coffee at Duke’s as ‘earth shattering.’ “I didn’t know coffee could taste like this,” he said. Andrew decided to come back home to provide that same experience to Ottawans.
True coffee culture starts by serving quality coffee. LVC grows their own coffee beans in Guatemala, Colombia, and Ethiopia, all of which are roasted in Ottawa. All LVC cafés are lively in conversation and energy, which Bassett maintains by serving quality coffee and not having wifi. Andrew has extended this culture by joining the coffee and cycling community to deliver coffee to local subscribers. This allows all consumers to enjoy the experience that Andrew actively aspires to provide to Ottawans.
Andrew looks forward to opening a third LVC location on Queens and Bank Street in the near future to continue to pursue his passion for the coffee industry, and growing presence in Ottawa and Canada. Andrew believes that he will progress by maintaining a kind attitude in all areas of his life, including his business.
“Always maintain the approach of being kind,” he said.
